Author, IT specialist and peripatetic
This is a very special post: a conversation with Ivan Baidak, author of Invisible and five other books. Invisible has recently been published in English by Canadian publisher Guernica Editions of Hamilton, Ontario.
I met Ivan five years ago on a trip to California for a writer’s conference in Russian River. On the way, my wife, Roxanne and I took a few days to play tourist in San Francisco. Of course, one evening, we ate supper at a restaurant in Fisherman’s Wharf.
Roxanne being Ukrainian-Canadian got to chatting with our waiter, who was from L’viv, Ukraine. It turns out that he, too, is a writer.
Ivan is a peripatetic author. In addition to Ukraine, he has lived in Poland, the U.S., Mexico, Austria, Slovenia and when we recorded this, he had residency in Arles, France. He visited Canada in the fall for a book tour.
That was to support the September 2022, release of the English transition of his sixth book, Invisible, by Guernica Editions. Invisible is a novel about people with various challenges. Ivan himself lives with Tourette’s Syndrome, and brings his experience to the writing.
